Coral Line by: MNU Environmental Management Students

Coral Type: Bushy

Coral species: Acropora sp.

Message: Good Luck with your studies - Debs

Notes: Unfortunately due to this year's El nino event many of our coral lines have been affected by coral bleaching and many coral fragments have died as a result. For this line, the effects of the warm water were severe and resulted in 90% of fragments dying which is why survival shows 10% . Whilst this is not good news, this data is still really important for our research.

Coral Type: Bushy

Coral species: Acropora sp.

The mortality seen at 9 months was a consequence of the El nino induced coral bleaching that affected coral reefs in Maldives during April/May 2016. Although 60% of fragments were lost during the warming event, this data is still very useful for the research aspect of the project.

Coral Line by: Stephane Le Beche

Coral Type: Bushy

Coral species: Acropora sp.

This line is to thank Mr Le Beche for donating to the Gili SEAS Fund during his stay with us at Gili Lankanfushi.

The mortality seen at 9 months was a consequence of the El nino induced coral bleaching that affected coral reefs in Maldives during April/May 2016. Although 40% of fragments were lost during the warming event, the surviving fragments are now very healthy and growing well.
